Ndiga Kithae proved his best round so far this year, an impressive 42 stableford points playing off handicap 12, to claim this year’s Toyota Kenya golf tournament at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club.
The former Thika Sports Club Captain, who also won the longest drive contest after hitting a massive 363-yard long drive that left many competitors agape, said he was pleased to be the first winner of the revolving trophy.
“The golf course was in immaculate condition and for once my driving was pin point enabling me to score on the relatively short par-fives.”
Another long hitter, Sigona’s Michael Njoroge, claimed the men’s prize with 41 points whilst Joyce Gikunda won both the longest drive for ladies and the top prize for ladies.
Second amongst the men was John Mathenge with 39 points while Francis Wahome was third on 38 points.
The best first nine went to Colonel (rtd) Julius Githire on 23 points with car-dealer Gilbert Maina claiming the best second nine also on 23 points.
Transport Minister Amos Kimunya won the prize for nearest to the pin on hole number-13, a tricky downhill par-three.
Phylis Kimbo was nearest to the pin for the ladies.
John Murithi, was awarded a hockey stick after returning the poorest score of the day, a measly 12 stable ford points at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club..
The Toyota 4-Ball Challenge was won by four veteran golfers – John Gatharia, James Muguiyi, Anthony Githinji and Wilson Mithamo who scored a total of 44 team points.
Nyanzalead
Ken Owiti beat Jitten Pabari and Joseph Atito on countback with 36 at the tough playing Nyanza Golf Club course, to emerge as the leading amateur during the KCB East Africa Golf Tour’s S&L Mortgages Classic.
Innocent Ondieki with 35 points finished fourth but after beating James Anzabwa on countback.
Julius Koros was the best KCB staff with 29 points and in second place was Kepha Bosire on 26.
Vet Lab’s Robinson Owiti was the best guest with 30 points and he won ahead of Yours Truly. Earlier Thika’s Simon Ngige had beaten Jacob Okello in the first hole of a sudden death play off to claim his second KCB East Africa Tour title.
The two had tied on four over par 284, forcing the play off which was the first play off this season.
