Masters Leaderboard: Tiger Woods Looks Like Old Self, Phil Mickelson Struggles

Tiger Woods Makes Charge on Masters Leaderboard While Phil Mickelson Ends Even
Tiger Woods has some swing left in him after all. Just when I was ready to count him out altogether, he comes roaring back as only he can.
I will take my daily recommended dosage of perspective first. Tiger hasn't done a thing yet. He merely put together a great day two. I will not be the first person to tell you that each one of his Masters victories came with a great day two being on the card.
He is still behind the leader though, and we still have the feeling that he can falter at any moment. It is hard to distance yourself from the tournaments he has had for over a year now. Tiger can't seem to put four days together, or can he?
I just saw this dude hit a monster chop on 18 to sit the ball ten feet from the hole. The only person I have seen make that shot is Tiger Woods. Is he back? No.
He needs to carry this performance out well into the weekend. That is what old Tiger did. He struck fear into the leaders and slowly made his charge over the final two days.
If he does that, I will renounce by position, and say he is indeed back.
Meanwhile, the other big name in golf was mediocre on Friday. Phil Mickelson is still very much in this thing, he just needs to find some measure of consistency.
He was doing way too much disaster relief on Friday. If he wasn't saving par, he was hitting bogies. That is no way to win this tournament. If anyone can turn the tide in the second half of the Masters, it's Lefty.
Augusta could very well see a finish of Tiger, Lefty and a group of young brash golfers. Now that would be a classic finish.
